Pianist Matteo Ramon Arevalos and ballerina Triinu Upkin will fuse Erik Satie’s enigmatic Gnossiennes with Arevalos’s own “La Folia” in a one‑hour, bilingual (Estonian/English) experience that blurs the line between concert and ritual.
The show departs from conventional narrative. Instead, it follows a staged journey that unfolds through music, movement, and spoken text. Written by Arashk Azizi and narrated by Triinu Upkin, the text invites the audience to wander a psychological labyrinth reminiscent of Ariadne’s thread: a path through doubt, desire, fragmentation and, ultimately, clarity.
Upkin’s solo role, drawn from the mythic figure of Ariadne, serves as a compass, guiding listeners through the shifting emotional landscape that ranges from Satie’s meditative stillness to the intense bursts of Arevalos’s “La Folia.” The collaboration between piano and ballet creates a continuous arc of transformation, where meaning emerges from the interplay of sound, silence, and motion rather than a fixed storyline.
Erik Satie is here not as repertoire but as an experience, It’s a journey inward, where the labyrinth becomes the mind itself.
This multidisciplinary outing is a highlight of the 2026 Tallinn Fringe Festival, offering a fresh, immersive take on one of Satie’s most celebrated works.
