“Bejamalen” Blends Sufi Poetry with Symphony – New Release

The newly released “Bejamalen” (With Beauty) marks a remarkable achievement in contemporary Arabic music, seamlessly bridging classical orchestral writing with the rich traditions of Eastern musical heritage. Released by the Egyptian record label Afaq Art Production & Distribution, the work stands out for its sophisticated orchestration, emotional depth, and compelling fusion of Western symphonic textures with the expressive colours of Arabic maqam.

From the opening moments, the composition unfolds with the elegance of a full symphony orchestra, drawing inspiration from both the Romantic era and modern cinematic scoring. The piano adds a deeply sentimental layer before the warm resonance of the oud enters with unmistakable beauty, introducing Arabic maqam into the orchestral landscape. As the vocal performance begins, the music reaches another emotional dimension, intertwining Arabic poetry with rich orchestral textures to create a powerful and immersive listening experience.

Written and composed by Sheikh Abd Al-Ghani Al-Umari Al-Hasani, Bejamalen is a Sufi-inspired qasida exploring themes of divine love, spiritual witnessing, and mystical knowledge before concluding with praise of the Prophet Muhammad. The work reflects centuries of Arabic poetic and spiritual tradition while embracing a contemporary musical language that reaches beyond cultural boundaries.

The piece is performed by the rising Egyptian vocalist Ziad Kamal, whose expressive interpretation brings remarkable authenticity to the composition. At just 24 years old, Kamal combines formal academic achievements, including a Mechatronics degree from Ain Shams University, with extensive musical training in Eastern maqams, violin, and oud. His growing reputation was further established after winning the Dr. Ratiba El-Hefny Competition at the Cairo Opera House.

The orchestral arrangement and musical direction are entrusted to acclaimed Egyptian composer and producer Maestro George Kolta, whose distinguished career includes collaborations with renowned artists such as Ragheb Alama, Tamer Hosny, Carole Samaha, and Abdullah Al Ruwaished. Through his signature orchestral style with Syncop Orchestra, Kolta masterfully integrates classical symphonic writing with traditional Arabic instrumentation, creating a soundscape that feels both timeless and contemporary.

The production is further elevated by the sound engineering and mixing of George Yacoub, alongside direction by Sherif Wahba. Nearly three years in development, the project demonstrates the meticulous craftsmanship invested in every musical and artistic detail.

Bejamalen follows Afaq Art Production’s 2023 debut release, “Althulathia” (The Trilogy), performed by Mohamed Mohsen, which attracted widespread appreciation among audiences devoted to refined Arabic music. With this latest release, the label continues its mission of presenting authentic Arabic music through ambitious contemporary productions that resonate with listeners both across the Arab world and internationally.

Founded in 2021, Afaq Art Production & Distribution has steadily established itself as a label dedicated to preserving the authenticity of Arabic musical traditions while embracing innovative artistic approaches. Bejamalen (With Beauty) represents another significant milestone in that vision, offering an emotionally rich musical experience where classical orchestration, Arabic maqam, Sufi poetry, and exceptional vocal artistry converge into one of the year’s most distinctive releases.
