Neuropa: Bragaglia’s Live Sound & Painting Set

For music lovers drawn to the intersection of electronic soundscapes and visual art, Wednesday, September 2 promises a unique highlight on the local festival calendar. Italian composer Paolo F. Bragaglia and visual artist Marco Bragaglia are uniting for Neuropa: Where Sound Becomes Vision, a live audiovisual performance staged as part of the Tallinn Fringe Festival.

Hosted at Ratas&Kohv Hipodroomi in Tallinn, the one-hour event explores the dialogue between real-time sound synthesis and visual canvas painting. Admission is entirely free (with voluntary support passes available), offering an accessible gateway to one of the week’s most intriguing experimental sets.

Sound Meets Canvas: What to Expect

Rather than treating projection art as a passive background element, Neuropa sets up an immediate feedback loop between audio and image:

  • Analogue & Digital Soundscapes: Italian producer Paolo F. Bragaglia crafts an evolving live electronic set using a hybrid setup of modular synths and digital instruments. Moving through ambient textures, cinematic electronica, and minimalist rhythms, the soundscape shifts dynamically from moment to moment.
  • Live Painting in Real Time: Simultaneously, visual artist Marco Bragaglia translates the audio frequencies, rhythm shifts, and tonal contours into visual form. As the music unfolds, live brushstrokes, lines, and colors emerge on canvas, making the visual artwork an equal improvisational partner.

Because both audio and visual components rely heavily on real-time improvisation, every iteration of Neuropa exists as a singular, non-repeatable event.
