Why Arvo Pärt?

The jury, composed of German academics, artists, and cultural officials, praised Pärt as a “defining figure in contemporary music” whose “unique compositional language touches and connects people all over the world.” The award underscores the composer’s deep ties to Berlin, where he spent decades after leaving Soviet‑occupied Estonia, and his pioneering tintinnabuli style.
