This summer, the Tartu Song Festival Grounds (Laululava) will host the brand‑new Tartu Punch, a pop music festival that promises to put Tartu on the same map as Viljandi, Pärnu and Saaremaa. Organised by the same team behind the nomadic Võnge festival, Tartu Punch will run on July 3‑4, 2026, marking a bold expansion of Estonia’s summer festival landscape.

Why Tartu Needs a Signature Pop Event
“Tartu lacks a landmark festival like Viljandi Folk or Beach Grind, said head organizer Tarmo Sikk. “We need something that speaks to contemporary pop while also drawing visitors from abroad.” With 10 % of Võnge attendees already coming from overseas, Sikk is confident that a city‑based pop festival will capture regional attention—particularly from neighboring Latvia.
Lineup Highlights & Global Ambitions
- First confirmed act: the Estonian band HU?, who reunited this year and will deliver Tartu Punch’s only summer performance.
- International acts: “We’ll announce the first international performers next week,” Sikk added, signalling a lineup that will rival the likes of Flow in Helsinki and Way Out West in Gothenburg.
- Future prospects: Negotiations are already underway to secure headliners for next edition, ensuring Tartu Punch grows rather than replaces the travelling Võnge festival.
The Perfect Venue
Sikk chose Laululava for its blend of seating, grassy areas, and ample space—a stark contrast to the “asphalt‑only” city festivals that dominate the scene. “We couldn’t find a good location that didn’t feel too urban,” he explained, making Tartu Punch a more relaxed, community‑oriented experience.
Aiming Beyond Borders
Unlike medium‑sized pop festivals that Estonia already has, Tartu Punch is designed to be serious, internationally‑recognised. “Positivus in Latvia is a one‑day affair now; it’s essentially gone,” Sikk noted. “Tartu Punch will fill that void and establish a sustainable pop festival in the Baltics.”
