Handbells & Organ: Estonia’s Quiet‑Week Musical Feast

The Arsis Bell Ensemble, in collaboration with renowned organist Kristel Aer, will host a special series of concerts on April 4 and 5 across Tapa, Keila, and Tallinn. The series, now in its fifth year, offers a unique musical experience that pairs the resonant tones of handbells with the rich sonority of the organ, creating a contemplative and luminous atmosphere ideal for the Silent Week preceding Easter.

Artist Insight

“We have chosen music that evokes the quiet, reflective mood of Silent Week, bright yet profound, hopeful yet contemplative,” explains Arsis artistic director Aivar Mäe. “Our goal is to give listeners a moment to pause, step away from everyday rhythms, and find peace and joy in the music.”

Kristel Aer has been a driving force in promoting Estonian organ culture, while the Arsis Bell Ensemble has long championed handbell music. Since the series’ inception in 2022, their partnership has garnered warm acclaim both in Estonia and abroad, most notably at an organ festival in Lithuania.
