Foretold by TTTC

Foretold by TTTC is an experimental album with an otherworldly soundscape. The album contains eight instrumental tracks, each with its own story to tell and consisting of different unconventional timbres.

Melody is not a given in this album, though this is not to say there is no leading sound in the music. The composer has cleverly created a field of sound where the audience's mind will follow a certain path, out of which a melody emerges. It is not a conventional melody but a more subtle, personal one.

TTTC has used various techniques to create the sounds in the album. Field recordings, hybrid recordings, performing, and improvising on synths and acoustic instruments are among the techniques used to create the unique timbre in each piece.

“Summer of Happiness,” the opening track of the album, oddly reminds me of the atmosphere in Andrei Tarkovsky’s timeless film, Stalker. The mysterious atmosphere of the music, with strong reverb and unconventional sounds, has created a sophisticated sci-fi feeling.

“The Dream of Birds and Trees” is created using field recordings along with altered sounds produced by toys. The scale used in this piece is pentatonic, creating a hybrid of traditional and modern Eastern music.

“Monologue” is a field recording with a soothing rainy day sound, followed by the next track, “Drowned,” where the sound has been created using a glass of water, paper, stones, a ukulele, and a straw to blow in the water. This is a completely unique way of creating music that hovers between Cage’s accidental music and biomusic styles.

TTTC continues to surprise the audience with the rest of the album, from experiments on the strings in “Vicario Brothers” to the ambient synths of “Enormous Wings” and the surprising classical guitar arpeggios of “Eyes of Blue Dog.”

The album ends with “Bon Voyage,” another field recording with a very interesting and melodious whistling over the night’s ambient sound.

Foretold is without a doubt one of the most interesting albums I’ve heard recently. It is not an easy album to listen to; it is not background music. The music demands attention to be understood, but when you grasp the music and the role of the composer in it, it becomes a very enjoyable experience.
