Eight vehicles are re-engineered into spatialized musical instruments for AUTOTUNED, a site-specific installation and live performance where cutting-edge technology, experimental composition, and urban architecture converge. Produced by Tunitemusic, this multi-sensory work transforms an open public area into a dynamic, shifting acoustic environment.
The physical layout features eight cars positioned in a precise circular array, each functioning as an individual channel that broadcasts a distinct layer of an original, multi-phonic score. At the heart of this vehicular circle, a trio of sound artists, Italian electronic composer and sound designer Paolo F. Bragaglia (who conceived the project), compoer and pianist Arashk Azizi, and award-winning composer/pianist Matteo Ramon Arevalos, deliver a live performance. Their playing establishes an ongoing real-time dialogue between live acoustic instruments, synthesized electronic textures, and the resonant properties of the surrounding city.
- Non-Traditional Staging: AUTOTUNED dispenses with the static, unidirectional setup of a standard concert stage in favor of an interactive, 360-degree soundfield.
- Audience-Driven Acoustics: Attendees are encouraged to move freely through and around the physical arrangement of the cars. Because the spatial balance of the eight audio channels shifts with every step, each listener crafts their own customized sonic path through the space.
- Urban Integration: The natural reverberation and ambient noise of the surrounding cityscape act as an additional acoustic layer, making the environment itself an active participant in the performance.
This free, open-access installation redefines how we interact with everyday technology, turning commuting machines into orchestral voices and the urban landscape into a concert hall.
