The improvised brushstrokes of Orhun Alaşıklık’s piano, painted across a sonic canvas, come together to form three evocative musical portraits in his debut EP, Cycle of Life. With each piece inspired by the mesmerizing paintings of Tuğçe Han Karakaya, this collection transforms visual art into a deeply emotional journey through sound.

Drawing from the essence of Karakaya’s works, Orhun approached the piano as both an interpreter and an artist, allowing his emotions to guide him. His improvisations refrain from perfectionism in favor of raw, unfiltered expression, offering listeners a glimpse into a cycle of life that is both intimate and universal.

The EP begins with “Nature Resonance,” a delicate, sentimental piece steeped in romanticism. Orhun’s solo piano feels like an homage to the likes of Richard Clayderman, as tender melodies unfold with simplicity and grace. It is a soft opening that sets the tone for the emotional landscapes ahead.

“Temporary Traces” follows, delving into a darker, more introspective mood. Its rondo-like structure alternates between floating melodic lines and rhythmic arpeggios that inject moments of movement. The contrast between these elements mirrors the ups and downs of life’s fleeting moments, giving the piece a dynamic and cinematic quality.

The journey concludes with “Passage of Dream,” a piece that feels like the quiet culmination of the themes explored throughout the EP. Romantic and hopeful, its gentle melodies are intertwined with cascading passages, as though dreams themselves are flowing seamlessly into reality. It’s a poignant finale, leaving the listener with a sense of peace and closure.

Adding to the album’s immersive quality, subtle atmospheric effects accompany the piano throughout, enhancing the depth and emotional resonance of each track. These ambient textures create a sense of space, inviting listeners to lose themselves in the music’s meditative flow.

Orhun describes Cycle of Life as an exploration of “an infinite cycle of life,” inspired by his experiences as an improviser and artist. Each piece is a reflection of the calm that comes with embracing life’s natural rhythms and accepting its imperfections. Through the simplicity of heartfelt improvisation, this project transcends sound and becomes a reflection of life’s delicate balance.

More than just a musical work, Cycle of Life is a marriage of visual and auditory art—a celebration of creativity as a raw, emotional force. It invites listeners to pause, reflect, and find meaning within its minimalist beauty. As Orhun himself puts it, these pieces are “crafted with emotions beyond perfectionism,” offering an experience that is authentic, deeply human, and profoundly moving.
